Mariane Shrine Tour
One week package for pilgrimages to Malta and Gozo, together with activities and Malta’s prime tourist attractions

 

Valletta and harbour cruise

Our guided tour starts with a stop at the Parish Church of Our Lady of Fatima in Pieta and then off to the bustling streets of Valletta where we will view the Barracca Gardens that command a breathtaking panorama of the Grand Harbour. Next we visit St Johns Co-Cathedral, adorned in riches that date back to the Knights of Malta, including the world famous Caravaggio painting famous Caravaggio painting.

 

 

We would then proceed to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Sanctuary and to the church of Our Lady of Damascus. After having seen all the riches and beauty in these Churches we would then call our morning a day with a stop for lunch.

After lunch we can relax on our favourite Harbour Cruise and witness Malts’s living past. We cruise around the two natural harbours on either side of Valletta, Marsamxett Harbour and the Grand Harbour. A detailed commentary will unfold the history of Valletta and the Three Cities connected with two Great Sieges of 1565 and 1942, as well as all the other places of interest including the historical forts, battlements and creeks which can only be admired from the sea. Captain Morgan's Harbour Cruise is renowned for its detailed commentary. We cruise into every creek showing you the closest possible views.

 

 

 

Southside and the Three Cities

Today we will discover the historical area known as the Three Cities which are Cospicua, Vittoriosa and Senglea together with the wealth & treasures that the Churches in this area have to offer. We start off with the Parish Church of the Annunciation in Tarxien followed by the Parish Church of our Lady of Lourdes in Paola. Both these Churches carry a huge history of the locals’ devotion to our Lady.

Next off to fgura to visit the Parish of Monte Carmele and the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Graces in Zabbar before we stop for lunch in one of our typical restaurants by the sea

 

 

After lunch we walk through the various narrow streets in Vittoriosa that are shaded by many historic buildings, monuments and churches. The Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception in Cospicua and the Parish Church of Marija Bambina in Senglea finish off our day not before having seen the beautiful vedette in Senglea and its commanding views.

 

 

 

Gozo … the sister Island

This is a splendid full day excursion taking us to Malta’s sister island of Gozo where after a lovely drive up the coast road and a 20 minute ferry crossing we will set foot on a similar island as regards to history and culture but having a character entirely of its own. Gozo, which is a three hilled island, is greener and more picturesque that Malta. We start off with a visit to the Parish Church of Our Lady of Loreto in Ghajnsielem. Next an extremely interesting visit to the megalithic temples of Ggantijja that are the earliest free-standing stone monuments in the world, much earlier than the pyramids of Egypt. We will also see the citadel in Victoria and the bay of Xlendi where all guests will have free time for shopping. Gozo is re-known for its woolen goods and handmade lace.

 

 

Lunch will be served in a lovely restaurant in the countryside and after we proceed for a trip to the world famous Azure Window in Dwejra. Finally this wonderful day comes to an end with a visit to the Shrine of Our Lady of Ta’ Pinu. This is the most visited site on the Island of Gozo by Maltese people and tourists alike who visit the Basilica for its rich beauty and interesting history.

 

 

 

Mdina and Marsaxlokk

Our next excursion takes us to the central part of Malta that is dominated by the ancient citadel of Mdina. However our day starts off with a visit to the Parish Church of the Nativity of Our Lady in Naxxar followed by the Church of the Blessed Virgin “tal mirakli” where here tradition holds that the image of the Virgin venerated in the church shed a tear when a severe earthquake hit the island. Next off to the Parish of our Lady in Attard before driving up to Mdina, the Silent City, where while passing through the narrow streets, we can admire the imposing bastions that command a magnificent view of most of the island. The morning comes to an end with a visit to the Church of Our Lady of Carmele in Mdina itself.

 

 

A nice lunch will be served in one of the restaurants in Rabat before proceeding to the Shrine of Our Lady of the Grotto where the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to one of the farmers on his way to the fields. Finally we drive down to the main fishing village of Marsaxlokk whose waterfront is lined with ‘luzzus’ painted in tradional reds, blues and yellows that give so much colour to this peaceful bay where we visit the Parish Church of our Lady of Pompey and where our guests  can spend free time browsing through the local market stalls

 

 

 

Blue Grotto and surroundings

Today we start off with three very old Parishes that are totally devoted to Our Lady. Driving towards the south of the island once again, we first stop at one of the oldest Parishes in the Maltese Islands which is dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Gudja. A short drive will then take us to Ghaxaq to visit the Parish Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary whose dedication dates back as far as 1784 and finally across to Mqabba to visit another extremely old Parish Church of the Assumption to the Blessed Virgin Mary

 

 

For lunch we drive to the Blue Grotto where we will also have free time to enjoy a boat trip through the grottos if the weather is permitting. Here one can appreciate the crystal clear blue sea found on this side of the island. The afternoon will be enjoyed visiting two very interesting Shrines starting with Our Lady of Girgenti and Our Lady of Borg in Nadur where recent apparitions have been seen of Our Lady. Finally we visit the Old Parish of our Lady of Sorrows in Birzebbuga.

 

 

 

Mosta, San Anton and the North

This excursion starts off with a visit to the botanic gardens of San Anton which is also the residence of the President of Malta followed by the impressive dome of Mosta which is the third largest unsupported dome in Europe dedicated to the Assumption. Following this, we make our way to Ta’Qali craft centre where our guests will enjoy seeing the art creations in glass, pottery and silverware

 

 

We will then drive up to Mgarr where we will stop for lunch and enjoy the local pjazza and winding narrow streets where progress did not leave its mark. We then walk to the Parish Church dedicated to the Assumption of Our Lady which dominates this quaint unspoilt village. Following this we drive further north to Mellieha where we visit the Shrine of Our lady of Mellieha and the Grotto of Our Lady in which further apparitions have been recorded. Our day comes to an end with a lovely drive down our winding coast road and back to the hotel.
